It is important because that carbon footprint is really a big thing to wards the global warming which is the huge problem for the whole citizen on the Earth. And Carbon footprint produce when people's energy release and gave out hot oxygen get together to become a huge hot air. And we always open air conditioner and also that we get really hot under the sun playing basketball didn't clean our self us and went in to the building and it contains heat. Makes it even more way more pollution than a air conditioner did. It actually doesn't really have to do with school this area specifically. It is way more to do with the whole community on the Earth since that Global Warming is getting become a really important issue to the whole world. If we think about it, its just a small thing to do always open the window and the fan if you still feel hot bring some water with ice in it. Come back in the classroom and clean your self up don't be really sweaty and stinky. Just do some simple things like this it will makes the whole world different with now. Don't u feel really proud of it ? And the reason why they will get impressed is because is just a really small action to do, just need to pay A LITTLE bit of the attention on it. It will make a huge difference.

The first thing I am going to do is that I will talk to Mr. Butcher, and talk to the artist in our school and we can create a day of it and like set to be more like a school policy. I would talk to Mr. Butcher at first and ask for his opinion and then suggest this to the SRC and put it on the new letter to let the parents see. And maybe we can talk to the science teachers and research about Carbon's natural and the chemical reactions. We might can do a science fair and ask parents to come.

1. What does Adora say about adults listening to young people?
She said a point about that "even your an adult, you shouldn't be afraid of making a really ridiculous dream about something as a child". And that sometimes adult might have to have that kind of dream to actually sees the true side of the fact. Also that "Children and adults should learn from each others."

2. What do you think about her argument?
I think is a really nice speech. All the ideas that she came up are those ideas that adults will never actually realized what they already lost. Its all from a little 12 years old girl's eyes of this girl. (but she is super intelligent though.)

3. What parts do you agree with? Why?
I agree with the parts that she said about that the adult is afraid to dream about little cute things as children does because they thinks that people will think they are childish. In my view, I don't feel any of these. In our age, teenager, is a period of age that from a child turns to a actual man. But I never felt that way about saying anything childish and what to be a shamed of. Cause sometimes childish and pure makes people see the truth of things. Just like in the story "The Emperor's New Clothes" in the nearly end, the little boy just points out the view that the king is actually not wear ANY clothes. But because those adults are thinking too pretentious so after all turn them be blind about what they see.

4. What parts do you disagree with? Why?
I think sometimes we still might have to hesitate about our dreams. Don't get too much hope about it, cause sometimes it just won't work in that situation. And another part is that adults can SOMETIMES still dream about whatever. But that doesn't mean you should be dreaming about whatever ALL THE TIME>

Trust. Trust makes all things work. Her parents give her space to do things that she likes and thinking about ideas and reading books. Even bought her a nice computer. That shows how much trust and love there is in all these things her parents do for her. And also she is a model of that adults should listen to kids more. Adults should trust kids. "Let go when they need to support when they have to."

How did it feel to have more or less money than other people in the class?
I feel fantastic, cause I am the richest one. And because of that I can buy anything I want without any control and worried, and even i kept these money I can still use it other time. Its more free for me to do things I want when I have to, cause the money is always be there.

How did it feel to see what you could and could not afford at the Global Mall?
I am the could once, even I got so much money, I can still buying things that is real cheap even no coast, so that I can save more to be thrifty. And not like some of the middle class or lowest class, that have to worried about how many coast this how many coast that, I can use it frequently.

How many of you could not afford education? What would your lives be like if you could not go to school?
You life will be like hell, you will not have the bright side of the view. You will only do stuff or jobs that is not according to education like those work that using your strength. And you will definitely be poor, so rather spend more money on the education than no have been educated, I will choose education it brings me a better life.

How would it feel to have to choose between food and health care?
I would choose health care, cause that if you got really bad food but you can still eat it and cover your hunger then thats good enough, but if you rather choosing eat super delicious food and get sick but no money to pay the health care I would definitely choose health care. More save.

How many of you have ever been very sick or gone to a hospital or had friends and family who have? What would your life be like now if you had been unable to get medical care?
You will have to pay everything by your self and other family members during this time have to be careful for using money, and if you are going to get a surgery then it will be even worse.

So the range between the rich people and the poor people will be more and more different, and few years later, just from the clothing you easily tell who is from which class that is what happened if we keep doing that.

Every day 1 dolors. That is the worse thing I never heard. They have to choose between environment, and people and also pressure of the people beside them. They will still been like how they are, and more and more people become like that. The world economy is going to be bad.

Yes, because I am a student, we always want to by what we want and plus we are teenage students we got comparing going on everyday. If one day you loose it, you will find better things and WIN it back next day this is how we survive till now. And we are stuck in this small bubbles it makes us don;t have any choice to choose, we can only follow how the POP wave goes. It makes our life tough than others like adults. For the clothing part.

Its about that the violence which happened in the family, cause of their father doesn't have work, or lost their work, so they put their anger on their families like their wife and children.

2. How is Eve Ensler being a global citizen? What is she doing to make a difference in the world (give examples)?
In her own personal life she been treat in violence too, when she was a child, but when she grow up she start to telling and writing lots of books to talk about this and always telling me people not to do it, and help them.

3. Give one example of how girls can end up in harmful situations because of societal pressures "to please" others.
Int he video we can see that the girls will want a boy to be their boyfriend, maybe sometimes is because they want to be popular or cause the boy is really rich, something like that, so they will allow those boys to do something they don't want and they know is not right for example like sex.

I think is really poor, cause we can see from the story of stuff video, that 99% of things that we made is trash, and this young girl in china have to make lots of them in one day for surviving and helping her parents and just for those girl in the first world to have them, and don't know what and where does it came from.

In the few weeks ago, we went on a field trip to the 蛇窯, which is mean a place which they make the china and clay out of mud. It's name is "snake" cause that it got a Dragon before in china and is only for king's plate and things, so they called it snake so it won't be against the king. We went there and there are different kind of kiln. There is alots a big huge one which is seriously called SNAKE is the biggest one in taiwan, it is a only few kiln which actually left didn't been distorted. After we view all the tools and kilns we start to do our own plate or things by clay. They gave us a piece of clay and tell us that keep punch it till it become a ball shape, and however don't make it got the line between each fold cause otherwise when they are burning it, it will explode.

Today, there is a student came from 宜蘭's college to our school and gave a presentation about the disappearing land "Kiribati". He was from Kiribati this small country (land) in the north east of New Zealand. He is the few lucky children that been chosen and came to Taiwan for studying. His dream is to save his country from sinking and become then "future president".

At first, he explain about his country's land forms and like nature resources a little bit. He said that in his country people don't need money for living they can plant crops and make goods for them selfs. Unlike the people in Taiwan, every thing needs money. And also that they can live by them self, just like if they get lost in a place that without people living, they can still survive. He also mentions that their race are apart of our aboriginal people, they are really a like. And he said a most important thing is about the "coconut tree". He said that their people there made a lot of things with coconut trees, like their houses and their daily drinks.

Then second part of his presentation, he is talking about why is this land going to be disappear in 20 more years. The problem is coasting by global warming. Kiribati doesn't have high mountains, the highest point of this land is 2 meters above the sea level. And most of the people build their houses beside the sea so that they can go fishing and stuff more easily, and they already live really happily for years. But because of the global warming casting the ice in the south pole been melted, so that the average sea level become higher, and this poor Kiribati will be covered by water. And those people can no longer live there of course.

What his second dream is that, he can convince people in Kiribati to leave as soon as possible. Cause the nature is not going to be better anyways, so the only way to solve this problem is leave and get a new home and start all over again.

In the end, we can still see that he loves his land and his country a lot. But now the nature is taking it away, he just hope his family and people will be safe and fine with it.

What does the good citizen look like ?

"What does a citizen looks like" this is such a good question. first, we have to make clear what is it meant by a citizen. Citizen are people who belong to a group or a country. For example, I am born in Taiwan, so I am a citizen of Taiwan and native of Taiwan. But their are some different situation too. Like if you want to come Taiwan to be a teacher, the country only gives you the acceptant that you can work here legally. But if you don't have an ARC card, you must leave Taiwan after few weeks, and that will be like you go on a vacation and go back to your country cause the holiday is over. And this process in US is called Naturalization. which is the same thing that I said. So, basically a citizen is a person that legally been allow to be a group or a country. We can say we are citizen of HIS. Cause this is our school and also we belong here for studying. Here are some of my personal thinking of citizenship and citizen.

For being a citizen of school, I think there are five outcomes that is most important and including all the things. There are " personal of high character, community contributor, active learner, effective communicator and critical thinker and problem solver. But, what are they mean though ?
Personal of high character - You got really good personality, you help people with happiness and treat it as a pleasure to help others, For example, people ask you about math problem and he just don't get it, you won't shout at them or just giving up on them. You will keep trying in another way.
Community contributor - Means that you do something for the sociality. Like pock up trashes, pit back the basketball that is on the basketball court and no one is playing it. that is a part of personal of high character too.
Active learner - Like how the words said you want to learn things actively. This is not just using or learning of school stuff , but also stuff you trying to figure out. You might go online and go library or ask teachers and parents about it, which means never give up till it got all things you want.
Effect communicator - In words what you read, is means that you convince people with your words. But actually is not just about that, is about makes people understand things or make them listen to you stuff like that and makes people understand fully get your information.
Critical thinker and problem solver - For example you got a problem on science and you don't get it, you are not just going just to go ask teachers to help you. You find the information by yourself, and do all things that you should do, and then if you still don't get understand you will call help. But actually when you come to this level you don't need to, cause you combine this whole thing together and the problem just had been solved. I simply if actually is way move complex than that, but make a long story shorter it is just critical and solve problems.
Now we know about these five outcomes and what it means, those are things that U think are the most important five characteristic of good citizenship at school. Every thing that I described, can be really small but also cab be really huge. In another words, these are all things that you need to follow and do, if you want to be a good citizen of school.

To be a good citizen of one's country. I think there are three important parts for being a citizen but there are other parts about attitudes to people in country. But lets talk about parts that being a citizen. first follow the rules and law that been written for your country; send is that we shouldn't bother other people's right. For example don't try to get things illegally. Another example we shouldn't write things on news or TV that is racist or discriminatory. For example in Taiwanese shows, some of them will say something about the Indian students, and laugh at their skin color and tell them to get back to their country. Thirdly, you should really care about the community and sociality around you. This is from a Taiwanese essay on governmental law. These three things are the basic things that you should follow. It could also have very serious consequences for people. What i mean is that some people just want to follow the tules and they do it. But for some people that maybe they are illegally living here or they are robbers or even terrorists it might be hard for them.

Global warming is an issue where people can show good citizenry on a global level Another example, it is not a good things to throw garbage every where, cause it is not good for the earth and the region around you. Be more specific, it is not good to throw garbage this everyone already know. But how to ? And throw to actually make it hurt the earth as small as possible ? That is about separate them. Is always good to make the cleaner get less work so it will be quicker. And if it goes quicker, the world will go faster. And also bring your own cup to drink shop, cause that you can use less paper cups, and they will cut less trees, they cut less tress, the world’s forest will be more and it makes people more relax cause the air and also global warming will be fixed or be much less.

These are all things needed to be a good citizen in all situations and societies. And it is a positive way to look at this thing about citizenship. It is hard to understand and hard to do but that is what a good citizen does. It is a good thing alway have a goal for us to reach and follow it.

My story is about a boy that he is afraid that he will die in fear. And he is scared of that he will die with no one notice.

What is important to them about the story they picked ?
It is a poem, and it confirm people as shows that a fear and the most scary thing that he can ever imagine that he don't want to have it in the real life. And is really important to me, is first because i don't like to see people in fear, i personally thinks that all people in this world should get confident, even they know nothin. In today's citizenship class, we learn about school's policy, a country citizen, and what is the rules in class. We know really well about the school policy, so I don't want to say much about that now. But what I do want to say is about the country citizen, a country citizen have different type of it. There is native, and the people who transfered. Native means you born in the country, and is legal in it. The transfered one is you born in other country, but you don't feel like living in that place, so you go to the other country and get a job, and become a legal citizen of it. For example, I am born in Taiwan, so I am a native Taiwan citizen.

Why my life is difference with the Africa's childern?

In my personal view, I think the different part is the technology. Because of technology we can have a lot of information that we want. And we can play games, Yahoo Messenger can chat with people that is really far from you. I also think money is a very big reason, sometimes you have skills but you can't found a good boss or leader just because you are poor. That is really unfair for them. The government is the most important one. Some of the country in Africa, their government keep money in his own pocket. And create some ridicules goals. Some of them killing people, and some of them using the money that suppose to be for the people in their country and buy the arms. And then they control people's life, make them work, and buy more arms to attack other countries.

In Sudan, there are 6,000 of child has been caught and trained to become the child soldiers. The report says, "There are us many as 6,000 child soldiers, some as young as 11 years old, the war-torn region of Darfur." Can you imagine that a 11 years old child are fighting on battle field killing each other and destroy cities? They are supposed to be in school playing and learning. Just such like the movie "Blood diamond". Children is innocent about everything, they believe in everything those adult said. Those children have grown up knowing nothing but war. What a terrible thing!!

In my person view I am not agree with that. Because no mater which science are you study, even you don't study science, you still can have the opportunity to point out the wrong thing that scientist did it wrong before. So, that is really not fair to Wegener. Because he is a meteorologist so the geologist tell him to get out and don't listen to him...that is so unfair. And the other thing is that I think those geologist know that Wegener was right, but they can't pull don't his face to agree with his drift and they don't have any thing to debate with, so they bring up that he is a meteorologist. What the heak is this?! And the other point is that because he is a German so that think he shucks....

In humanities class we had study a lot about geography, and we are going to write a post about a city and describe the regions of that city. But first, do you guys know what is region means, bascally it is means the area of a part of the land.

The city I am going to write is Hsinchu, here is where I live it for six year. It has the other name called wind city, because it's wind is too big and the people here us wind to dry things very normaly so it been called wind city, so creative right? Hsinchu is a city of Taiwan. Is not big as Taipei. Hsinchu is 7th big city in Taiwan. It has 40.6 million people live in Hsinchu. The 30 million people are all older the 15. And 4.3% people don't have any jobs. Hsinchu's most famous goods is chip, I mean the chip inside every technology tools. But in the old Hsinchu city they are famose from glass. Today in science class we have a activities call "Chocolate attack". The story is talking about China is attack us. They using chocolate to shoot us. The only way we can don't get hurt and don't become "chocolate man" is get on the boat and drive it away. We have those same materials: 3 peace of paper and 3 store and 1 meter of tape. We can design any shape you want but fistful it must can float and carry people ( I mean stopper ). Our team design a canoe. We use 3 pices of paper to make 3 same canoe and tape it to gather. And then we cut off the strow and tape on the canoe too.

Is time to test it !!

In the next class, we go down stars and put it in a small pond. One group at the one time. First on is Patrick's group, I forget how many stopper did they put. And then is Stephanie's group, their group is the winner they got 31 stopper on her boat. Then is Sandra's group I forget how many did they have too. But I remember my group. Our group got 22.

In science class, we have a activity. The activity is to make the messy puzzle piece together be come a really picture.

But this time have some thing is different, the puzzle piece didn't have any cue. It is a blank paper. It was all white. I am with Stephanie and Andrew. They both are good at puzzles. So they can very easy to find out which one can fit the other one. But thins time the has been stuck. It have few piece of paper. And it didn't have demo. You must to us your imagination. But we still fit it all together. That was cool.

The other time we have the same thing like this. But is more easer. This time is piece of news paper. So that will be more easer, we can read the news and fit it together. ( But it is a Chinese news paper, so some of the people doesn't know how to read Chinese will be harder.) That was so easy~

I think Ms.Smith tell us to do this things because we had learn about Alfred Wegner. And Ms. Smith want us to understand his Theory will be hard. Because in that century, they think he is crazy. That is like a piece of white paper. No one believes him. And pluses they don't have enough technology so they can't understand what is that genius's thinking. But now, the technology is very good. Couples have been banned from kissing at a railway station in Cheshire because it holds up other passengers.

Who? Those people in the railway station.

What? Few of the people said that the date can't kiss with other in railway station, because if they kiss each other in the station those business people will been late with their business. So, they put a sing that is talking about "NO KISSING".

A mental map of this trip by myself

This morning I want to eat a hamburger. So, I go to the 7-11 in Chiao Tung university next to my house. Walking out the building of my house just in the right side, there is a Chinese temple. A lot of people is worshiping at there, and some people are burning the divine money. I can smell of the burning paper and some sense of incense. In front of the temple, I can see the sign of the university. That is a gold color words written Chiao Tung university. Beside the gold words is a gate, a north side gate. Following the sidewalk, there are pines tree grown straight and tall, many pine cones have fallen on the road. Raising my head, I can see the big clock tower over my right side. After some walking, I see a girl dormitory, some of the boys are waiting for their girls friends front of the building. Opposite the building there is a bicycle booth. There are many different kinds of bike parking there. At the mean times I can smell the delicious smells from food come from the building. I rush through the camphor trees, that are beautiful trees beside the road. Finally, I made it. I go into the 7-11 and buy a hamburger gladly.

Submarine SMASH Day Reflection

-- What did we do for SMASH Day?

In the beginning, Mrs. Smith tell us that she has a task for us. She sent us a carton, 4 mirrors, 10 peace of paper and two tapes. She wanted us using those material to build up a periscope of submarine. Our group, Chris and me, tested reflection of mirrors again and again trying to find out what is the best angles of vision. After we set up the angles, we cut the carton to pieces. We don't want to waste out our tapes, so we inserted the mirrors into the pasteboard directly. Finally we can saw the stuff above the desk by angling the two mirrors. But we waste too much pasteboard making us could not build up the box of periscope. That was sad.

-- What was your mission?

In our group, Chris and me, should test the reflection of mirrors trying to find out what is the best angles of vision. After we set up the angles, we must cut the carton to big pieces. And make up a periscope.

I learn a lot of things in Mesopotamia and Egypt's group. The Egypt is talking about that they are two kind of the people in Egypt before and now. The old Egypt is like 9 and 31 dynasties. But the civilization began around 3150 B.C. and ended in 31 B.C., when the Roman Empire conquered Egypt. This is the oldest world in Egypt. The other kind is too much so I don't explain too much. Talking about Egypt, the first thing you will think about is what ? Is Pharaoh, Pyramid, or something weird ? No, the first thing I thought is the word they write it on the wall, the word is using little pictures. In old Egypt, they will writing the thing with a paper which is made of reed. And they will writing all of the things on the paper, sounds like a journal or diary. And the other thing is very important is the clothing. Their cloth are us good us now, most of the cloths are made by linese. Only the king can wear the white cloth and neckless. But that is just the simple wearing.

With the Mesopotamia, their are a lot of god. Some is control the food, some is water and some is love. But those of the god is such like humans, they have feelings. They will get angry, love, jealousy and demoralized. So, in a word, they are human with super power. They have pen, but is not exactly the same with now. The have paper also, the paper's material is same with Egypt's papers. Their word is also using little pictures, but is more like drawing.

In Broad Oak Primary School their teachers show a video to the children that teach them what is the correct management when you are sick. But some of the parent common that just wasting their time. So some of the students also been asked to stay at home with their parents and looked at it the web site called "Sneezesafe". Under the heading ’Tissues to the rescue!’, children are told："Nathan still has a runny nose, but now he knows that sniffing is not very nice. And Nathan is not going to wipe his nose on his sleeve. He’s going to blow his nose with a tissue."

Today we watched a video called "Life after people". That video is talking about if all the humans disappear at once. What happen will it be ? A day, a year, ten year, what happened will the city become ? That is a science video, in my view i think that is kind of funny. Because:
1. Humans wouldn't disappear at once
2. If the mill keep working like few years with no humans, it will destroyed the world. So if it keep working and working, those animal wouldn't have this chance to come to the city. They must been killed.

For example like, if all the people on the Earth gone at one time, except Taiwan, what happened ? What kind of things will it be ?

Human is an animal that they will help each other. If all the human are gone that will be simple. Because no one is one the Earth any more. But this time is not the same, Taiwan's people alive. But they must have some thing it eat, after all Taiwan's human will get out of Taiwan because no more food on this land. Until here I have a question, How would it be when Taiwan's people move to the other country ? Will they getting disappear too like the others human on the country ? That is weird....and strange....

Which of the learning outcomes did I use in my learning?

1. In this semester's humanities class, we had learn a lot of the learning outcomes and their example. In my personal view, I think most of time is Active learner. That is kind of weird to some of the people know me. Because a lot of time you guys saw me, I am like taking break time. But the truth is not, I learn a lot of thing in my life of HIS. Now I am not talking about class work, I don't like class work too much. You see, most of time you learn things is not really from teacher or some of the adult, it's from friends. I don't what do you think. But my english, skills, ritual of the other country. But some times they will told you what they think, but the most of time the make some mistake. So you can't believe all of the thing they told you.

How did I use each of those learning outcomes? How can I describe each one?

You know, been a active learner is not so hard. Some of the people thought that active learner is means you must learn a lot of things. But that is not the truth. Now let me tell you how to describe that. The most easy definition is ask question. For example is like this = " ? ". Got it ? this is how learning works. When you ask a question and some one answer you, (what ever is the answer is wrong or correct) that called learn. You learn some thing on other people and they learn some thing from you. In my local school before, they makes you learn. Why I make "Makes" bold? Because in their school they just keep testing you, they most easy things how you can get good grads is not cheat any more it's copy. They copy thing on books and paste on the paper. So, they wouldn't learn any thing from books. And the other very important things is that when they have break time they wouldn't talk too much. Yes, they talk. And it's still had asking question. But their's question is all like " Do you know how to write the test ? " or " This kind of test is so easy right?". Is all this kind of questions.

India tanker sinking

The daybreak at day 11, in Sulawesi there is a tanker sinking. A part of the passenger said that a big billow come up, and all the passenger fall in to the water. There are 260 people on the tanker when it sink. The official has make sure that 18 of the people has saved by fishing man. Official had dispatch the other boat save them, but the weather is too ruin, so they didn't saved all of them.

Questions :

1. How come they couldn't make sure there is no storm before the tanker went out.

2. Why when they saw the storm, and they didn't be more faster to save them?(I means's they stop searching.)

Most of them are aborigine. Invaders grab their things, land and women. Suddenly, invaders makes them been slavery to serve them. The employer said if they can pay the money to redeem themselves, they can get freedom. But it can’t be true, the employer wouldn’t pay them money. From one generation to another, them have to work every day from morning till night. If they run alway they will been killed. If they are sick they must to work all day long too. This time in Humanities class, we had seen a movie called " Ten Commandments". I saw many religions, people and technology in this movie. I think those people who with different culture could be divided into two groups - ancient Egyptian and Israel.

Ancient Egyptian
Pharaoh

Active Learner: I try really hard to learn how to improve my flute skills. In the music class, I try really hard to absorb everything we learn. I also ask Jae for extra help. I attend peer tutoring program every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Person of High Character: I always pick up some trash in the basketball court. I always cheer everybody up, so no one around me feels frustrated.

I hope through worship, prayer, Bible study and friendship to grow in the understanding of God’s ways and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.

The second goal: Be a good swimmer
Building up endurance is what I really need to work on at this stage more than anything else. Refining my stroke and developing speech will come later, but absolutely must have the endurance to make it through practice sessions.
Get in the pool and swim freestyle non-stop for 10-minutes and then gradually build up from there. I will also change it up between swimming for a set amount of time or distance. At some point you might also want to work on flip turns.

The third goal: Family commitment
Taking care of my brother at home about Tae Kwon Do and swimming skills....etc.
Collecting and emptying the garbage every night.

The companies watered down their milk and added melamine (which looks like protein) to meet the nutrient requirements.In China, cows are mostly raised on small family farms. The farmers who sell small amount of milk to the milk collecting stations. Then the milk collecting stations sell the milk to the milk companies in large quantities. Somehow, the milk collecting stations' owners learned a little chemistry, and they found out melamine can fool the readings of the protein test.

So they not only add large amount of water into the milk to increase its volume, but also add the harmful melamine to get pass the quality check of milk company., in the latest fallout from the toxic milk scandal which has killed four Chinese infants and made 53,000 others there ill.

In the long, storied history of Fourth-Place Medal's Investigative Unit (founded: Monday), one question has been asked by our readers more than any other. Today, on our five-day anniversary, we will attempt to tackle the biggest Olympic mystery of the Beijing Games: what is Michael Phelps listening to on his iPod?
In nearly every camera shot of Michael Phelps on dry land, he can be seen with iPod headphones dangling from his ears. The earbuds are a ubiquitous presence in the ready room and on the starting block; they're just as much a part of Phelps' 'uniform' as goggles and a swim cap. About two minutes prior to the start of a race, Phelps sheds the iPod along with his warm-ups. So, what is he listening to?
Podcasts of NPR's This American Life and Dylan live at The Supper Club. No wait, that's my iPod. Phelps listens to hip-hop music on his. He says it helps motivate him before a race.
While his pre-race tracklist varies, Phelps has said that "I'm Me" by Lil' Wayne has been on his playlist in Beijing. The track, off Weezy's mega-hit "Tha Carter III" features the line:

Yes I am the best/and no I ain't positive I'm definite/I know the game like I'm reffing it

That's about the only lyiric that's printable on a family blog.
Other artists that populate Phelps' iPod include: Jay-Z, Young Jeezy, Eminem and Outkast. (What, no 'Pac?) Occasionally, he'll throw some techno into the mix, but usually keeps things rap-centric. Phelps doesn't speak much about the specific songs he's listening to, but he did tell NBC in 2004 that Eminem's "'Til I Collapse" was on his most-played list at Athens. In 2005, he created a playlist for the website Rhapsody that included the songs "Roses" by Outkast, "Burn" by Usher, "Overnight Celebrity" by Twista and "Smile" by G-Unit.
Mystery: solved.

Phelps wins eighth gold medal; breaks tie with Spitz
Cheering from the pool deck, Michael Phelps won his record eighth gold medal of the Beijing Games on August 17 to become the grandest of Olympic champions.

Jason Lezak held on to the lead Phelps gave him, anchoring the United States to a world record in the 400-meter medley relay against an Australian team that did its best to spoil history.

But Phelps, with a big hand from three teammates, would not be denied. He eclipsed Mark Spitz's seven-gold performance at the 1972 Munich Games, an iconic performance that was surpassed by a swimmer fitting of this generation: a 23-year-old from Baltimore who loves hip-hop music, texting with his buddies and wearing his cap backward.

"Nothing is impossible," Phelps said. "With so many people saying it couldn't be done, all it takes is an imagination, and that's something I learned and something that helped me."

Phelps set seven world records and one Olympic record, doing a personal best time in every event.

Chinese parents seek answers on tainted baby milk

SHIJIAZHUANG, China - Hundreds of Chinese parents, some cradling infants, converged on the company at the heart of the tainted baby formula scandal Thursday, demanding refunds and asking what they can safely feed their children.

Thousands of others filled hospitals, many hovering over sons and daughters hooked to IVs after drinking milk powder tainted with melamine, a toxic industrial chemical that can cause kidney stones and lead to kidney failure.

The scandal highlights the changing family dynamics and economic growth in China. A generation ago, women had little choice besides breast-feeding. Now, supermarkets are filled with dozens of brands of baby formula, marketed to women who work outside the home after they give birth.

Yao Haoge, an 11-month-old baby with two large kidney stones, had been drinking Sanlu formula since she was born because both of her parents work. They had been puzzled by their little girl's fevers and dark urine, but it never occurred to them that she had kidney stones brought on by her formula.

Now, like many of the babies at the Peace Hospital in Shijiazhuang, Haoge has an IV drip hooked into a vein in her head.

"We don't make much money, but we wanted to buy good milk powder," said her father, Yao Weiguan, a day-laborer from a small town an hour's train ride from Shijiazhuang.

"We thought it was good and now it's given us problems. And we spent quite a bit of money too."

Baby milk powder laced with melamine, used in plastics and fertilizers, has been blamed in the deaths of four babies. More than 6,000 others have been sickened. Some 1,300 babies, mostly newborns, remain hospitalized, with 158 suffering from acute kidney failure.

On Friday, China's quality watchdog reported that the tainted product crisis has extended to liquid milk. A report posted on the agency's Web site said tests show nearly 10 percent of samples taken from Mengniu Dairy Group Co. and Yili Industrial Group Co. — China's two largest dairies — contained melamine. Milk from Shanghai-based Bright Dairy also shows melamine contamination.

Separately, Hong Kong's Food Safety Center has announced a recall of milk, yogurt, ice cream and all other products made by Yili after melamine was found in eight of 30 sample products tested in Hong Kong.

On Friday, a major Hong Kong grocery chain removed all liquid milk made by Mengniu Dairy Group Co., a leading Chinese dairy linked to a harmful chemical that has killed and sickened babies.

PARKnSHOP spokeswoman Pinky Chan said the supermarket chain decided to act after mainland regulators found that milk sold by Mengniu and two other major Chinese dairies contained melamine.

Questions have continued to swirl about the handling of the scandal by milk producer Sanlu Group Co. and government officials.

The company reportedly received complaints about its formula as early as March and tests revealed the contamination by early August, just before the Olympics. Sanlu went public with a recall on Sept. 11 after its New Zealand stakeholder told the New Zealand government, which then informed the Chinese government.

Melamine has no nutritional value but is high in nitrogen, making products with it appear higher in protein. Suppliers trying to cut costs are believed to have added the toxic chemical to watered-down milk to cover up the resulting protein deficiency.

The scandal has not been confined to Sanlu, one of China's best-known and most respected brands, based in this dusty northern Chinese city. The country's quality control watchdog has found that one-fifth of companies producing milk powder in China had melamine in their products.

"Who do you trust? I don't know. If such a big company is having problems, then I really don't know who to trust," said a 31-year-old man surnamed Yang, waiting in line outside a Sanlu office to get reimbursed for his 7-month-old daughter's medical exam and kidney ultrasound.

Yang, who refused to give his full name, held a bag with a can of Sanlu milk powder he planned to return for a refund. The formula cost $21.60, a significant amount of money for working families in China.

"What happens if something else goes wrong in the future? Is it just kidney stones? What if there are other problems?" said Yang, whose daughter checked out fine.

Parents traded tips on which brands were still considered safe after news that products from China's top dairy producers — Mengniu and Yili — were also found to be tainted.

"Now we have no idea what kind of milk to give the baby. They all have problems," said a woman surnamed Wang, the mother of a 1-year-old who had been drinking Sanlu formula for two months. "There are ... brands that are OK, but I can't remember the names."

At a nearby Sanlu processing facility, hundreds of people waited for refunds. Some held a half-empty pouch, while others hauled in cases of the formula. A red banner at the plant declared: "Pay attention to food safety, ensure the public's health."

Police in northern China's Hebei province, where Sanlu is based, arrested 12 more people Thursday, bringing the total to 18. Provincial police spokesman Shi Guizhong said six suspects allegedly sold melamine, while the others were accused of adding the chemical to milk.

The widening crisis has raised questions about the effectiveness of tighter controls China promised after a series of food safety scares in recent years over contaminated seafood, toothpaste and pet food tainted with melamine. In 2004, more than 200 Chinese infants suffered malnutrition and at least 12 died after being fed phony formula that contained no nutrients.

Panicked parents across the country were rushing to hospitals, wondering whether their children had been sickened by their formula.

"I have no choice but to give my son solid foods now even though he still wants the milk formula," said 26-year-old Wang Yucun, waiting in line at the Beijing Children's Hospital with her 11-month-old, Zexun, who has been drinking Sanlu and Yashili products since birth.

"What I want to know is why the exported milk products and milk products given to Olympic athletes were carefully inspected but the Chinese people suffer with poor quality products," Wang said.

"I thought I was buying a quality product because it comes with a government seal of approval. At least that's what I thought until now."

Insidious logos that imprinted themselves on your brain before you could speak, that transcend the linguistic and cognitive middle men and lunge directly for your MasterCard as your neurons are still gearing up for "blink." The Golden Arches. The Coca-Cola script. The AT&T Death Star. Uh, MasterCard.

But only one monolithic, world-dominating corporate logo has developed the capability to travel backward in time to imprint itself on people and objects that existed years before its conception. So, the Nike swoosh, created in 1971, showing up on Syracuse's new statue honoring Ernie Davis, who died of leukemia eight years earlier, in 1963, is all just a big mistake, is it?

No, it wasn't a marketing deal, Syracuse athletic director Daryl Gross said. The sculptor simply made a mistake.
"Easy fix," Gross said in an e-mail today. "The sculptor is on it and will make it perfect."

What fool deigns to believe he can remove The Swoosh from its chosen apparel, modern, bronzed, anachronistic or otherwise? Do you believe Bruno Lucchesi simply made a mistake, or took liberties with the old photograph of Davis he was working from to create the statue? Don't you see? The Swoosh was already in the photograph. Soon, it will be in every photograph, on every sculpture, beckoning the nude angels in every fresco to "Just Do It." The Swoosh conquered the present easily, too easily, and it has conquered the future. But as for the past, the first black Heisman Trophy winner is only the beginning.

Soon, every athlete who ever lived will bear The Swoosh.

The Swoosh will control governments.

It will control art.

It will be the defining symbol of humanity, until it becomes history itself!
